About This Spot

Stepping into GW Delicatessen feels like slipping into a cherished neighborhood nook where time pauses gently, offering a moment of quiet amid the city’s rhythm. This is a lively yet unpretentious corner at 2133 G St NW where the scent of fresh bread and sizzling bacon invites passersby to slow down and savor something familiar but made with care.

The pace here is unhurried but purposeful. It’s the kind of spot where locals — from busy students to nearby office workers — gather for a hearty, no-fuss meal that fills more than just the stomach. The energy hums softly as orders are called out and sandwiches are layered thick with tender meats and crisp vegetables. Though seating isn’t on offer, the vibrant buzz of the counter, the quick smiles from the cooks, and the ritual of picking up a warm bagel or a stacked sandwich make it feel like a shared moment, a small ritual of the morning or midday.

GW Delicatessen captures the comforting essence of a classic deli, where the focus is quietly on quality and generosity. The bagels emerge with just the right balance: crispy on the outside, tender inside — a perfect cradle for robust fillings like smoky bacon, eggs cooked to softness, and flavorful slices of turkey or pastrami. Whether grabbing a breakfast sandwich to jump-start the day or savoring a lunchtime turkey club, there’s a sense of warmth that comes through in every bite. The menu isn’t about trends but about satisfying cravings with a straightforward, heartfelt approach to sandwich-making.

Amid the practical, bustling environment, there’s a nostalgic charm here, a feeling that this deli has quietly held its place in the neighborhood for years, serving up comforting flavors at honest prices. It’s a go-to stop for those who appreciate food that feels like it was made by a neighbor — generous portions, familiar favorites, and a behind-the-counter team who keep the welcoming spirit alive day after day.

This place is a time machine. Prices look like they were set in the 90's and frozen since then. For $7, you can get a massive breakfast sandwich that, if you're a normal human being, will fill you up for the entire day and if you're a local college student, at least through your afternoon classes. I splurged and got a BLT with egg on an everything bagel with cheese for a whopping $9. And the bacon quotient is next level, they just have some inside hookup on a massive bacon pipeline because each sandwich literally has 4-5x the amount of bacon you'd expect and rightfully deserve. Line is long but moves briskly, you'll likely be in and out in about an efficient 10 minutes.

Phenomenal breakfast sandwich (bacon, egg and cheese on a sub roll)! So good I’ve gone back three days in a row. The cooks are super nice and lay out the options they have. The bacon is plentiful, crispy and delicious! Glad I don’t go to GW otherwise they’d have to roll me to class.

During a recent trip to DC, we picked this spot to be our go-to for breakfast. It seems like this spot has been in the neighborhood for a long time and for a good reason at that. I think this might be the best bacon egg and cheese bagel I've ever had. The bagel was soft in the middle but crispy on the outside, the bacon was super crunchy and plentiful and the egg was perfectly seasoned. Just one bagel left me stuffed till lunchtime. Prices are pretty good too. I wish a spot like this existed near my college. My sibling also tried their chicken pastrami sandwich and though it was a bit pricier than their bagels, it was enough for a whole meal. It wasn't too long of a wait for orders. Orders are first placed at the counter in the back, then wait for your food, lastly go to the front to pay. They accept card too which is convenient.

Stopped in at Leo’s GW Delicatessen and tried the steak and cheese sub. Really tasty and very reasonably priced. The bread was fresh, the steak was flavorful, and the portion size hit the spot. There was a bit of a line when I went around 11 am, but that just tells me the locals know this is the place to be. Definitely worth the wait and I will be coming back to try more from the menu.

First state in the seventies. It looks like it's been a change in the people who prepared the food but it seems to be actually managed to owned by the original people. It's a carryout no seating. When the food is good. I recently had a pretty good turkey burger which is hard to find in this city. I really go there for the egg salad sandwich which I have them put turkey bacon on. The original egg salad and bacon sandwich has regular pork bacon on it. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious and enormous. Only paid about $9 for the turkey burger. The chicken salad sandwich I think was under 7. It's on George Washington University's campus so the line is always filled with students from GW any time along with school students from school Without Walls. Parking is the only drawback.

Holy Crap!! This is hands down the BEST breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had! Decided to try DW Deli so I stopped in and ordered a Bacon, egg, & cheese on a croissant and let me tell you…AMAZING!! The croissant is light and flaky, the egg and cheese are great, but the star of the show is the bacon! They give you sooooo much bacon! It’s a dream come true! In addition, the service was great, I got my order super fast, and I love that it has that authentic deli feel! Also, you can’t beat the price!! I can’t wait to come back and get another!!

What a great breakfast! Food was delish! I got a double egg, provolone, and tomato on asiago bagel. The line was out the door but they got us out within 15-20 minutes. Price is great and so good. We will be back multiple times on this trip!

This place has all the bodega vibes and the food was great! Portions were huge so it more than justified the prices. Service was quick and staff were friendly even for it being 6am! Wish I worked in DC more often I would definitely make this place a staple!
